Access Holdings Plc names Agbede as acting GCEO

Access Holdings Plc has appointed Ms. Bolaji Agbede as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer following the untimely passing of Herbert Wigwe. The board announced Directors of Access Holdings Plc in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Ms. Agbede, the most senior founding executive director in charge of business support within the company, has been chosen to lead the organization during this challenging period. Her appointment is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

With nearly three decades of professional experience, Agbede brings a wealth of expertise and strategic insight to her new role. Her career journey began in 1992 at Guaranty Trust Bank, where she rose through the ranks to assume managerial positions by 2001. In 2003, she became the Chief Executive Officer at JKG Limited, a business consulting firm.

Agbede’s association with Access Bank Plc started in 2003, where she served as an Assistant General Manager responsible for managing the bank’s portfolio of chemical trading companies. Over the years, she demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and strategic vision, leading to her appointment as Head of Group Human Resources from 2010 to 2022.

In her most recent role as Access Holdings Plc’s founding Executive Director, Business Support, Agbede played a crucial role in integrating business units and transforming the company’s culture.

Agbede holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Lagos (1990) and a Master of Business Administration from Cranfield University (2002). She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management, UK, and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.

Additionally, Agbede has participated in various prestigious leadership and professional development programs, including the High-Performance Leadership Programme organized by the IMD and the Strategic Talent Management Programme organized by the London Business School.

The appointment of Agbede comes in the wake of the tragic helicopter crash in California, United States, which claimed the lives of Herbert Wigwe, his wife, son, and former Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, on Friday.
