In his Independence Day speech, President Bola Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to addressing the nation’s economic and security challenges, while calling for patience and unity.
He outlined several ongoing reforms aimed at alleviating the rising cost of living, improving food security, and fostering youth empowerment.
The President acknowledged the struggles many Nigerians face, especially with rising living costs, but emphasized that reforms are showing positive signs, assuring the public that better days lie ahead. Tinubu highlighted the nation’s resilience, noting that despite crises throughout its 64-year history, Nigeria remains a strong and united country.
On security, the President announced significant progress in the fight against Boko Haram, banditry, and kidnapping, noting that over 300 commanders had been eliminated within the past year. He said efforts were underway to restore peace to affected communities, allowing farmers to return to their fields, which he expects will boost food production and lower prices.

Tinubu also pointed to economic strides, such as attracting $30 billion in foreign direct investments over the past year, clearing forex backlogs, and improving Nigeria’s fiscal stability. He promised that upcoming reforms, including those in the petroleum sector, would stimulate job creation and economic growth.
As part of his focus on youth, the President announced plans for a 30-day National Youth Conference to address issues like education, employment, and innovation.
He also referenced government initiatives aimed at job creation, including the launch of the *Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme* (LEEP) and the implementation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
Concluding his address, Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and resilient, stressing that the nation’s future depends on collective effort and shared resolve.
“Better days are ahead of us,” he said, calling on citizens to join in building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
The address marked Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary.
