Don Jazzy appoints Tega as new president of Mavin Records

Mavin Records founder and music mogul Don Jazzy has officially appointed Tega Oghenejobo as the new President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the record label.

The announcement was made Tuesday on Instagram, where Don Jazzy highlighted Tega’s dedication, leadership, and instrumental role in advancing Mavin’s artists and African music as a whole.

Describing Tega’s impact on Mavin Records, Don Jazzy praised him as a passionate and resilient force behind the scenes, responsible for establishing the label’s reputation as a talent incubator. “While I’m often praised for discovering and nurturing superstars, I can confidently say the most genius move I’ve made was recognising Tega’s passion and resilience,” Don Jazzy said.

“From the early days, he has been delving into the business, building teams, developing executives, and creating sustainable careers for our talents.”

Tega, a long-time executive with Mavin, has been integral to the label’s success, overseeing the strategic development of emerging artists and guiding them to achieve both local and international recognition. Under his leadership, Mavin has propelled acts like Rema, Ayra Starr, and Ladipoe to stardom, transforming them into ambassadors of African music worldwide.

In accepting the role, Tega expressed deep gratitude to Don Jazzy, whom he referred to as a “supreme leader.” He shared his excitement about the new role and his commitment to expanding Mavin’s influence in the global music industry.

“I’m honoured to step into this new role as President & COO of Mavin Records. It means embracing new challenges, setting new goals, and reaching new heights,” Tega posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Thank you, Supreme Leader @donjazzy, for your unwavering belief and trust in me to lead the Mavin team.”

Tega also acknowledged the collective effort of Mavin’s artists, team members, and industry partners, noting that their support has shaped his vision and approach. “Together, we will continue to push boundaries, inspire others, and make an indelible mark on the future of African music and entertainment,” he added.

Don Jazzy’s announcement signals a new era for Mavin Records, a label already recognized as a powerhouse in Afrobeats. With Tega at the helm, Mavin is positioned to reach even greater milestones and continue pushing African music to global audiences.
