The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Lagos State Chapter is gearing up for the much-anticipated 2023 Lagos Public Relations Industry Gala and Awards (LaPRIGA), set to be held on December 21, 2023, at the Shell Hall, Muson Centre in Lagos. This annual event, themed “The Game Changer,” promises to celebrate and recognize outstanding achievements in the field of public relations.
This year, LaPRIGA introduces a fresh category, “Best in Public Sector Campaign,” to acknowledge groundbreaking public relations initiatives across various levels of governance. This new category complements the existing “Outstanding Public Affairs Practitioner” category and is open for nominations from both individuals and organizations.
Mrs. Comfort Nwankwo, Chairperson of the Lagos chapter of NIPR, shared insights into the preparations for the 2023 awards. She emphasized that the competition for the LAPRIGA has witnessed remarkable growth, with increased interest from industry stakeholders.

Mrs. Nwankwo stated, “This year’s theme is ‘The Game Changer,’ and we are on the lookout for campaigns that embody creativity and genuinely transformative impacts. PR professionals are invited to visit our website to download the award criteria and submit nominations, whether for themselves or others. Both individuals and organizations are eligible for nomination.”
Furthermore, NIPR is reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability by introducing the “Best in Environment/Sustainability Campaign” category. PR professionals engaged in environmental and sustainability campaigns are encouraged to participate actively.
The involvement of stakeholders is a crucial aspect of LaPRIGA. Members of the Lagos Chapter of NIPR will play a central role in the 2023 Awards, from the nomination process to the selection of winners. Stakeholders can participate by nominating candidates in various categories, casting votes for preferred nominees after the shortlisting by the Awards Panel, seeking sponsorship support from their organizations, and attending the awards night in December.
Nominations are open until November 13, 2023. Voting by members of the Lagos Chapter will take place from November 27 to December 8, 2023. The winners will be officially announced at the Gala night on December 21, 2023.
LAPRIGA boasts a diverse array of award categories, including Best in Technology Public Relations, Best in Public Relations Education, Best in Hospitality PR, Best in Political Communication, Best in Entertainment PR, and Best Use of Research & Measurement.
Additional award categories acknowledge excellence in Public Relations Practitioner of the Year, Corporate Communication Professional of the Year, Most Influential PR Professional, and Outstanding Public Affairs Practitioner of the Year. The event also celebrates excellence in areas such as Community Relations, Political Communication, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Supporter of PR.
The 2023 LaPRIGA goes beyond recognizing achievements in the field of communication. It aims to honor an individual living with autism and developmental disorders who has displayed remarkable success in the corporate world, aligning with the theme of “The Game Changer” and collaborating with the Patrick Speech and Languages Centre.
Victoria Nwadoka, Chair of the planning committee, explained the theme, stating, “We are recognizing the game changers this year because they have ignited innovation and transformed the perception of public relations. A game changer is someone who sparks new concepts, inspires the desire for change, and creates change itself. Game changers can be individuals or organizations who face challenges yet drive change.”
LaPRIGA 2023 will pay tribute to these game changers in Lagos, highlighting their vision, leadership, and innovation that have brought about substantial impact in the public sector, organizations, and Nigeria as a whole. The event promises to be a celebration of innovation and transformation in the field of public relations.
