FG launches startup support, engagement portal

Date:

The Nigerian government has launched the Startup Support and Engagement Portal, a significant step in implementing the Nigeria Startup Act.

This newly launched portal, available at [startup.gov.ng](https://startup.gov.ng/), serves as a pivotal platform aimed at identifying and aggregating startups, venture capital firms, hubs, and innovation centers across the country.

Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, announced the portal’s launch on Tuesday night through his X (formerly twitter), underscoring its importance in facilitating engagement and providing support to various players within the startup ecosystem.

He emphasized that this initiative will pave the way for establishing consultative forums among startups to select representatives for the National Council for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This move seeks to foster discourse and consensus among ecosystem players.

Tijani encouraged Nigerian startups, venture capital companies, hubs, and innovation centers to register on the portal, inviting industry stakeholders to join forces in the full implementation of the Startup Act for the advancement of the nation’s innovation ecosystem. He also tagged the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Nigeria in his announcement.

This development follows the enactment of the Startup Act by former President Muhammadu Buhari a year ago. In a supportive tweet, Oswald Osaretin Guobadia, the former Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Digital Transformation and lead advocate of the Nigeria Startup Bill, expressed the need for continued engagement among stakeholders for sustainable policy development. He highlighted that collaboration remains fundamental in the implementation process to benefit all stakeholders involved.
