In a recent operation, the Ogun State Police Command apprehended 116 suspected cult members in the Ifo area of the state.

The group, consisting of 70 males and 46 females, are affiliated with the Aye Confraternity and were taken into custody by the command’s Anti-Cultism Squad at Galaxy Hotel on Ibogun Road. The arrests took place around 01:42 AM.

Acting on security intelligence regarding the cultists’ activities and their plans for initiation and anniversary ceremonies, the Anti-Cultism Squad was dispatched to the scene. The suspects were apprehended based on this information.

Among the items confiscated from the suspects were four axes, seven cutlasses, banners, illicit drugs, and cannabis. The police operation coincided with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Aye Confraternity, and over 300 cult members were initially spotted at the scene. However, upon seeing the police presence, they scattered in various directions, and 116 suspects were successfully detained.

The apprehended individuals, both males and females, are currently under interrogation at the Eleweran police command headquarters. The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Abiodun Alamutu, issued a warning to cultists and other criminal elements to avoid Ogun State, emphasizing that the police command is committed to eradicating criminal activities and maintaining security across the state.
