President Bola Tinubu, speaking through Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, reiterated his unwavering commitment to fulfilling his campaign promise of ensuring Nigerians have uninterrupted access to 24-hour electricity.
Addressing attendees at the inaugural Annual Socio-Economic Summit organized by the Jericho Business Club in Ibadan, Oyo State, Tinubu emphasized that his administration remains dedicated to resolving the longstanding challenges in the power sector.
Expressing concern over the persistent energy poverty experienced by Nigerians, Tinubu highlighted that previous efforts by past administrations to tackle the multifaceted issues within the power sector were largely ineffective. He pointed out that policies implemented in the past had not yielded the desired outcomes.
Tinubu emphasized the multifaceted nature of challenges within the power sector, encompassing issues within the generating sector, Electricity Distribution Companies, and challenges faced by consumers.

The President outlined strategies being pursued to address these issues, including efforts to bridge the significant metering gap faced by households and businesses. He stressed that having meters is crucial for accurate billing and revenue collection, which is pivotal for sustaining and improving electricity supply.
Furthermore, Tinubu highlighted plans for more robust legislation to deter vandalism and theft of power assets. He emphasized the need for stringent actions against individuals involved in damaging transmission lines and power cables, aiming to expedite legal proceedings against offenders as a deterrent to others.
Assuring Nigerians of ongoing plans and strategies, Tinubu highlighted efforts toward a comprehensive and sustainable plan aimed at delivering consistent and affordable electricity supply to both households and industries. He urged citizens to recognize that damaging power infrastructure not only impacts the government but ultimately hurts the entire population by impeding regular power supply.
