Nigerian Breweries Plc has undergone notable changes in its board of directors, marked by the resignation of Mr. Asue Ighodalo, the chairman of the company. The announcement was made by Mr. Uaboi Agbebaku, the company’s secretary, in a notification to the Nigerian Exchange Ltd in Lagos on Friday.
Agbebaku conveyed Ighodalo’s decision to step down and offer himself for public service. Ighodalo, in adherence to proper corporate governance practices, will officially resign from the board and his position as chairman on December 31, 2023.
Quoting Ighodalo, Agbebaku highlighted the chairman’s mixed emotions, expressing both regret and pride in the sacrifice made to devote himself fully to the new cause. Ighodalo, while acknowledging the esteemed role within the organization, expressed confidence in Nigerian Breweries’ capacity to confront Nigeria’s evolving business landscape.
Subsequently, the announcement also introduced interim changes to the board’s leadership. Sijbe Hiemstra, the longest-serving director, will assume the role of chairman in an interim capacity from January 1, 2024. Hiemstra’s interim tenure will oversee the board’s functioning and oversee the process of appointing a substantive chairman.
