President Bola Tinubu has urged media practitioners in Nigeria to hold his administration accountable through constructive criticism while maintaining fairness, truth, and a sense of national duty.
Speaking on Wednesday at the All Nigerian Editors Conference (ANEC) in Abuja, the president acknowledged the media’s pivotal role in shaping public opinion and safeguarding democracy.

Tinubu, however, cautioned against using criticism as a tool to derail the nation’s progress, stressing that journalists must remain partners in building a stronger and more united country.
“I urge you to continue upholding the standard of journalism — report boldly, but do so truthfully,” he said.
“Critique government policy, but do so with knowledge and fairness. Your aim must never be to tear down, but to help build a better society.”
The president commended the Nigerian media for its historical contributions to democratic development and called for renewed commitment to professionalism, integrity, and national cohesion.
