Allegations of marginalisation in state and federal appointments have prompted the people of Southern Kaduna to voice their concerns.
They are appealing for greater inclusivity and fairness in these appointments, and they emphasize the need to zone the next ministerial appointment from Kaduna State to their region.
Yusuf Kanhu, the national coordinator of the Southern Kaduna Renewed Hope Movement of Nigeria, conveyed these sentiments during a press conference in Kaduna on Monday. Kanhu highlighted that the Southern Kaduna region has been grappling with significant marginalisation over the past eight years, particularly since the rise of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to power.
Kanhu asserted, “The Southern Kaduna people… decry the ongoing marginalisation faced by the southern region within the governance of Kaduna State.” He pointed out that during the previous administration of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, noticeable disparities arose in political appointments and campaigns, resulting in an uneven representation of the region.
The movement expressed concern about the introduction of a Muslim-Muslim ticket, which they believe intensified the division within the region. This decision, according to them, pushed the Christians and Muslims of Southern Kaduna into deputy roles or positions with diminished influence.
Kanhu called for a fair and balanced distribution of appointments in the southern part of the state. He urged Governor Uba Sani to prioritize equitable representation for both the Christian and Muslim communities in the area.
