The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the dissolution of the executive body of the Rivers State chapter of the party. Led by Abdullahi Ganduje, the NWC further revealed the constitution of a caretaker committee tasked with overseeing the process of electing new executives.
This decision comes on the heels of recent discontent voiced by some party chieftains in Rivers State, particularly those loyal to former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. The group, headed by the state governorship candidate Tonye Cole, expressed dissatisfaction, alleging that President Bola Tinubu had seemingly favored Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his loyalists over them.
During a press briefing at the party secretariat, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, announced the appointment of a seven-member Caretaker Committee to manage the party’s affairs in the state for the next six months. Notably, the committee is believed to comprise members loyal to the FCT Minister.

The appointed committee members include Chief Tony C. Okocha as Chairman, Chief Eric Nwibani as Secretary, and others such as Hon. Chibuike Ikenga, Prince Stephen Abolo, Hon. Silvester Vidin, Senibo Karibi Dan-Jumbo, and Miss Darling Amadi.
Morka emphasized that the Caretaker Committee’s primary mandate is to conduct a comprehensive electronic registration of all party members in the state. Additionally, they are tasked with preparing for the organization of congresses to facilitate the emergence of new Executive Committees at various levels within the party, ranging from the ward to the state level.
The inauguration of the appointed committee members is scheduled to take place at the party secretariat in Abuja on Friday, November 24, 2023. This move by the APC’s NWC signals a restructuring process within the Rivers State chapter, aiming to facilitate a new leadership structure through a fresh round of elections and registration of party members.
