Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved his entire cabinet, sacking all commissioners and public officers serving under his administration with immediate effect.
The sweeping decision was announced Wednesday evening in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi. It follows a recent Supreme Court judgment that appears to have shifted the political landscape in the state.
Governor Fubara held a valedictory session earlier in the day with members of his outgoing cabinet at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where he thanked them for their contributions over the past two years.
“The Governor has relieved all Commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgement of their appointments with immediate effect,” the statement read.

Fubara used the opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, calling on citizens to work together with President Bola Tinubu to build a “peaceful, secure and prosperous country.” He reaffirmed his commitment to serve Rivers State with “renewed vigour.”
This marks the latest in a series of political upheavals in Rivers State. Former Military Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), had earlier suspended Fubara’s cabinet after the governor was temporarily removed from office during a state of emergency declared by President Tinubu.
Ibas, before exiting office on September 18, had also dissolved state boards and suspended heads of parastatals — actions that left the status of Fubara’s appointees in limbo until now.
With the cabinet officially dissolved, all eyes are now on Governor Fubara’s next moves as he rebuilds his administration in a politically charged climate.
