In a unanimous decision, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, a distinguished economist and former Managing Director of Polaris Bank, has been elected as the Chairman of the Southern Senators’ Forum.
The election, which saw the participation of 54 Senators representing the 17 Southern states, marks a significant development in the forum’s leadership.
Senator Abiru’s extensive experience in banking and finance, coupled with his notable tenure as the Chairman of the standing Committee on Industries in the 9th Senate, positions him as a capable leader for the Southern Senators’ Forum. His election underscores the confidence and trust reposed in his leadership abilities by his colleagues from the Southern region.
Joining Senator Abiru in steering the affairs of the forum are six other executives, including Senator Victor Umeh as Vice Chairman, Senator Mpigi Barinada as Secretary, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong as Publicity Secretary, and Senator Kenneth Eze as Treasurer. This team of executives, representing diverse regions and political affiliations, reflects the forum’s commitment to inclusivity and collaboration.

In his acceptance speech, Senator Abiru emphasized the forum’s role as a platform for deliberating and addressing critical national issues.
