The inaugural Big Sports Dialogue (BSD) 1.0 has sparked widespread excitement across the Nigerian sports community, earning praise for its clarity, courage, and bold attempt to reset the nation’s sports trajectory. Stakeholders from every corner of the ecosystem commended the initiative and called for the dialogue to become a continuous national platform.
The high-level gathering—conceptualized and convened by Aron Akerejola, one of Nigeria’s leading sports broadcasters and reform advocates—brought together the most influential voices in the industry to map out a practical blueprint for sports transformation.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Osaze Ebueku, said the event proved that the desire for reform is strong and widespread:
“We are encouraged by the dialogue’s outcomes and the unwavering resolve of those driving change in the sector. The discussions showed a collective commitment to elevating Nigerian sports from a pastime to a powerful economic engine.”
The forum was attended by foremost figures including Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission and representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Hon. Bukola Olopade, DG of the NSC; Rt. Hon Philip Shaibu, DG of the National Institute of Sports; Rivers State Sports Commissioner Chris Green; Amaju Pinnick; Aisha Falode; Aderonke Atoyebi; Larry Izamoje; Mitchell Obi; Bashir Are; Nelson Ini; and many others.

In his closing remarks, convener Aron Akerejola announced that a comprehensive reform report is underway.
“We are diligently crafting a roadmap for the development of sports in Nigeria,” he said. “This document will outline concrete actions and milestones that stakeholders can rally behind as we push Nigerian sports to the next level.”
With its strong attendance, robust conversations, and united vision, the Big Sports Dialogue 1.0 has laid the foundation for actionable change, positioning sports as a true driver of economic growth, national unity, and youth development.
