The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, marking a significant step in their quest for success on the global stage.
The decision, ratified by the NFF Executive Committee following a recommendation from the Technical and Development Sub-Committee, comes as Nigeria seeks to bolster its chances of securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Chelle, 47, brings extensive experience to the role, having managed Mali’s national team and clubs like GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran.
His tenure with Mali was particularly notable, as the team came close to reaching the semi-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, only to be edged out by the hosts in extra time.

As a former professional player, Chelle’s career included stints with French clubs such as Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais. His international playing career saw him earn five caps for Mali.
Chelle’s appointment is effective immediately, and his primary mission is to lead the Super Eagles through the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, with crucial matches scheduled for March.
