Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has urged the Super Eagles to exhibit unity, determination, and their best performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
He emphasized the importance of teamwork while addressing the national football team at a special dinner held at the Lagos House, Marina, before their departure for the tournament.
Expressing his support for the team, Governor Sanwo-Olu posted pictures from the event on X (formerly known as Twitter), captioning them with encouraging words and prayers for the team’s strength, resilience, and unity during the competition.
His message extended beyond social media as he personally charged the Super Eagles during the dinner, acknowledging their role as unifiers of the country and highlighting the anticipation and excitement of over 200 million Nigerians for the team’s success. He urged the players not to rely on individual talent but to work collectively as a team to aim for glory in Cote d’Ivoire.

Governor Sanwo-Olu pledged his commitment to supporting the Super Eagles, assuring them of the backing of the entire nation, stating, “Winning the AFCON will be the best palliative.”
Despite injuries impacting the team’s preparations, the Governor encouraged the players not to relent in their efforts, emphasizing the significance of their performance in unifying the nation and bringing pride and joy to Nigerians. Sanwo-Olu expressed his personal commitment to attend the games in Abidjan to show solidarity and support for the team.
The Governor’s motivational words served as a rallying call, emphasizing teamwork and determination while instilling confidence in the Super Eagles as they geared up for the tournament, aiming to secure victory and bring the AFCON cup back home to Nigeria.
