Vice President Shettima to lead presidential team to AFCON finals

Date:

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead a presidential team to the finals of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

This directive comes following Vice President Shettima’s representation of President Tinubu at the semi-finals, where the Super Eagles emerged victorious against South Africa in a thrilling encounter.

The Nigerian national team is set to face the host country, Côte d’Ivoire, in a highly anticipated rematch at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Sunday, February 11. This match promises to reignite memories of Nigeria’s previous 1-0 victory in the group stage, secured through Captain William Troost-Ekong’s penalty.

President Tinubu, recognizing the unifying power of football and the pivotal role played by the Super Eagles in fostering national pride and unity, believes that Vice President Shettima’s presence at the finals alongside the presidential delegation underscores the government’s unwavering support for the team and its commitment to their success.

The statement urges Nigerians to raise their voices in encouragement and create a wave of national pride that propels the team to glory.

With Vice President Shettima at the helm, the presidential team aims to rally behind the Super Eagles and showcase Nigeria’s unwavering support as they strive for victory in the AFCON finals.
