Dr. Aminu Maida, the newly appointed Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has taken office and pledged to prioritize expanding dependable and affordable broadband internet services to all Nigerians. He aims to realign the Commission’s regulatory priorities to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, which focuses on advancing digital transformation efforts in the country.
Dr. Maida intends to ensure effective broadband infrastructure across Nigeria, emphasizing the need to create more communication infrastructure to meet the digital demands of a growing virtual economy. He supports President Tinubu’s vision of increasing broadband penetration to 70% and covering 90% of the population by 2025.

He also highlighted the importance of aligning with the Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy’s strategic plan, particularly in providing digital skills to three million Nigerians and empowering them to start their businesses.
Dr. Aminu Maida’s appointment as the new EVC of NCC came as part of a reorganization within the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, where Prof. Umar Danbatta, who had served in that capacity since August 2015, stepped down.
