Tinubu reaffirms commitment to African progress

Date:

President Bola Tinubu, speaking as a Special Guest of Honour at the swearing-in ceremony of Ghana’s newly elected President John Mahama, reaffirmed the commitment of African leaders to lift their nations out of poverty and build resilient economies at their own pace.

In his address on Tuesday, Tinubu emphasized the continent’s resolve to pursue development on its terms, stating, “We have nothing to prove to anyone except ourselves. We have found the critical path to our success. We shall lift our nations out of poverty and build resilient economies at our own pace.”

Tinubu underscored the significance of Mahama’s inauguration as a milestone for democracy in Ghana, celebrating the peaceful transition of power. “Today, I am here not only as the President of Nigeria but also as an African in resolute support for Ghana and her people,” he said.

Highlighting the historical bond between Ghana and Nigeria, Tinubu paid tribute to the visionary leadership of both nations’ founding fathers, who championed independence and strengthened ties between the two countries. “Just as Ghana drew inspiration and strength from Kwame Nkrumah, Nigeria similarly drew inspiration from its founding leaders,” Tinubu remarked.

He loves his nation and its people to the core. He believes that your nation has a mission and intends for you all to fulfil it,” Tinubu said.

The Nigerian President further called for enhanced cooperation between Nigeria and Ghana, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to tackle challenges such as poverty, youth unemployment, and instability. “Your ascension to power should mark a new and invigorated momentum in pursuing sub-regional integration and progress,” Tinubu urged.

Tinubu’s address resonated with the themes of unity and progress, as he expressed optimism for a future of shared prosperity across the continent. “With focus, we can tackle our people’s most pressing concerns,” he concluded, reinforcing the shared commitment of African leaders to the continent’s development.
