APC sets screening dates for Senate, House of Reps aspirants

Date:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially signaled the start of its internal selection process, releasing the screening schedule for aspirants vying for Senate and House of Representatives tickets ahead of the 2026 National Assembly polls.

In an announcement shared via the party’s official X handle on Friday, National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka confirmed that the high-stakes exercise will take place in Abuja over the course of two days, beginning tomorrow, Saturday, May 9, and concluding Sunday, May 10, 2026.

To ensure a streamlined process, the ruling party has designated two separate high-profile venues for the upper and lower chamber aspirants. The exercise will kick off promptly at 10:00 a.m. on both days.

Category Venue Date Time
Senate Aspirants Abuja Continental Hotel (formerly Sheraton) May 9 – 10 10:00 AM
House of Reps Aspirants Treasures Suites & Conferences, Abuja May 9 – 10 10:00 AM

The party leadership has issued a firm directive to all contenders to arrive prepared. According to Morka, aspirants are expected to be “punctual” and must present all required documents and credentials to the screening committees.

Failure to provide the necessary paperwork or arriving late could jeopardize an aspirant’s standing ahead of the primary elections.

This screening exercise serves as a critical gatekeeping phase for the APC. It allows the party to vet the eligibility, character, and party loyalty of hundreds of aspirants before they face the polls in the primary elections.

With the 2026 National Assembly elections drawing closer, the atmosphere in Abuja is expected to be charged as political heavyweights and fresh contenders gather this weekend to clear their first major hurdle on the road to the ballot box.
