Davido joins Fela Kuti in Atlanta’s Black Music Walk of Fame

Date:

In a career-defining moment that bridges his Nigerian roots with his American birthplace, Afrobeat titan Davido (David Adeleke) has been announced as an inductee for the 2026 Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame.

The induction ceremony is set for June 1, 2026, in Atlanta’s Historic Westside. The honor comes as the “Timeless” crooner celebrates a massive milestone: 15 years at the forefront of the global music industry.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Davido’s inclusion in this year’s class feels like a full-circle moment. He joins an elite group of cultural icons being honored for their profound impact on Black music and global entertainment.

The 2026 Induction Class Includes:

  • Davido: Afrobeat superstar and global cultural ambassador.

  • Ludacris: Atlanta-based rap legend and philanthropist.

  • Paul Morton: Renowned gospel powerhouse.

  • Maynard Jackson: The late, former Mayor of Atlanta and a giant of Black political history.

By receiving his plaque on the walkway, Davido joins the ranks of the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, cementing his legacy as one of the few African artists to be immortalized by the organization.

Reflecting on his journey, Davido took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to mark his decade-and-a-half in the industry.

“God is the best of all planners! 15 years in da game,” he posted, acknowledging the long road from his 2011 professional debut.

From his breakout hit “Dami Duro” in 2012 to his most recent 2025 album, “5ive”, Davido has remained a relentless hitmaker. His career highlights include:

  • Five Studio Albums: Including the record-breaking Timeless (2023) and his latest project 5ive (2025).

  • Grammy Recognition: Three nominations at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.

  • Global Influence: Paving the way for the “Afrobeats to the World” movement.

The Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame was established by the Black American Music Association and the Georgia Entertainment Caucus. It serves as a permanent monument to the entertainers and cultural figures who have shaped the sounds and stories of Black excellence globally.

As Davido prepares to have his name etched into the pavement of Atlanta’s Westside, the induction stands as a testament to his “unbroken fighting spirit” and his role in making Afrobeats a permanent fixture on the world stage.
