The traditional ruler of Ogurugu community, along with its residents, welcomed a joint committee comprising representatives from both the federal and state governments during a working visit to the community.
The visit aimed to discuss the establishment of a naval base in the area. Led by Deputy Governor Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai from Enugu State and Rear Admiral Chijioke Onyemaobi representing the federal government, the committee was greeted with enthusiasm by the community.
Igwe Egwuaba expressed the community’s appreciation for the government’s intervention and emphasized the potential benefits of a naval base in the area. The proposed base is expected to boost the local economy by attracting investors and supporting the development of social amenities such as hospitals, schools, and markets.
The traditional leader highlighted the community’s readiness to cooperate with the government and provide the necessary land for the project’s success. He also commended Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership and urged investment in agriculture in the region.
Rear Admiral Onyemaobi, part of the joint committee, discussed the positive impact the naval base would have on the local economy and security. He emphasized the navigability and strategic value of the waterways for the establishment of the naval base.
Barr. Ossai reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to acquiring land for the project and underscored the significant benefits it would bring in terms of security and economic growth. The council chairman, Hon. Chukwudi Nnadozie, expressed gratitude for the project’s selection in the local government and pledged full support for its speedy completion.
The proposed naval base is expected to enhance security and stimulate economic growth in the Ogurugu community and the wider Uzo Uwani council area.
