Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, the chairman of the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), has expressed his resolute stance against intimidation and distraction amid an ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Rimin Gado affirmed that he remains undeterred in his commitment to the commission’s mission of investigating and exposing corrupt public officials.
Addressing reporters on Monday, Rimin Gado emphasized that the PCACC will continue its pursuit of suspected corrupt individuals, as long as the commission operates within the boundaries of the law. He dismissed recent allegations of corruption within the commission’s management as mere tactics employed by those with vested interests to evade justice.
Rimin Gado noted that certain individuals currently under investigation were trying to undermine the commission’s efforts to carry out its constitutional responsibilities. He asserted that the commission, backed by substantial evidence, will persist in its quest to eradicate corrupt practices from the system.
Highlighting the commission’s commitment to the rule of law, Rimin Gado referenced a Court of Appeal judgment that grants the PCACC the authority to investigate individuals working within the judiciary and other arms of the government. He stressed that the commission’s determination to hold corrupt individuals accountable remains steadfast.
The chairman addressed attempts to hamper the commission’s work, including requests to withdraw police personnel attached to the PCACC. He emphasized that these actions would not deter the commission from pursuing justice.
In conclusion, Rimin Gado stated, “Nothing would stop the state from prosecuting or initiating criminal prosecution against any person because Section 211 of the Constitution is so explicit.” He reaffirmed the commission’s unwavering resolve to uncover corruption and ensure that justice prevails, regardless of attempts to obstruct its efforts.
