The Federal Government has issued a stern warning to Nigerian citizens traveling to Canada, emphasizing the necessity of ensuring proper documentation before leaving the country.
During her visit to a shelter in Brampton, Canada, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), stressed the importance of traveling abroad through legal channels and with appropriate documentation to avoid potential repercussions.
Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerian travelers to prioritize legality in their journeys and cautioned against arriving in a foreign country to seek asylum without proper documentation, emphasizing the risks and challenges faced by immigrants in various countries, particularly those relying on food banks for sustenance.
Highlighting the situation, Dabiri-Erewa mentioned insights shared by Pastor Vivian Eruka, who operates the Bethel food bank and collaborates with shelter residents. Eruka conveyed the Mayor of Brampton’s commitment to making an additional 800 beds and shelters available for immigrants in need.

The Federal Government’s stance, as conveyed by Dabiri-Erewa and supported by community leaders, underscores the importance of lawful and properly documented travel while emphasizing the need for respect for both Nigerian laws and those of host countries to ensure a smooth and lawful immigration process.
