FG cautions Nigerian travelers to Canada on proper documentation

Date:

The Federal Government has issued a stern warning to Nigerian citizens traveling to Canada, emphasizing the necessity of ensuring proper documentation before leaving the country.

During her visit to a shelter in Brampton, Canada, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), stressed the importance of traveling abroad through legal channels and with appropriate documentation to avoid potential repercussions.

Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerian travelers to prioritize legality in their journeys and cautioned against arriving in a foreign country to seek asylum without proper documentation, emphasizing the risks and challenges faced by immigrants in various countries, particularly those relying on food banks for sustenance.

Highlighting the situation, Dabiri-Erewa mentioned insights shared by Pastor Vivian Eruka, who operates the Bethel food bank and collaborates with shelter residents. Eruka conveyed the Mayor of Brampton’s commitment to making an additional 800 beds and shelters available for immigrants in need.

Additionally, the Chairman of NiDCOM highlighted community support, mentioning Wale Rabiu, a bakery owner who generously donated numerous loaves of Agege bread to shelter residents. Furthermore, Bayo Adedosu, a Nigerian residing in Canada and an immigration consultant, provided counseling and advice to those seeking asylum.

Adedosu advised individuals not to speak negatively about Nigeria to prevent potential repercussions in the future. He encouraged them to demonstrate patience and abide by the laws of Canada during their stay.

The Federal Government’s stance, as conveyed by Dabiri-Erewa and supported by community leaders, underscores the importance of lawful and properly documented travel while emphasizing the need for respect for both Nigerian laws and those of host countries to ensure a smooth and lawful immigration process.
