Nigerian Army Rescues Hostages from Boko Haram Captivity

Date:

The Nigerian Army has reported a successful operation by troops of 144 Battalion, leading to the rescue of 25 hostages held captive by Boko Haram terrorists.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, released a statement on Monday, detailing the accomplishment. He noted that the brave troops, in collaboration with the Hybrid Force, effectively extricated 14 hostages during a clearance operation in Gobara village, located in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The statement revealed that among the rescued individuals were six women and eight children. General Nwachukwu emphasized, “All rescued victims are presently in troops’ custody undergoing profiling.”

Highlighting the commitment of the Nigerian Army, the statement further elaborated on a similar operation carried out on Sunday, August 27, 2023. Troops from the 82 Task Force Battalion, in conjunction with the Hybrid Force, conducted a raid on a Boko Haram enclave in Gava Village within the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. In this operation, 11 civilians were rescued from captivity.

In an additional operation on the same day, seven members of a Boko Haram family voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 81 Division Task Force Battalion in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State. The family consisted of three adults and four children, signifying a potential shift in the dynamics of such encounters.

The statement continued to describe an anti-banditry operation conducted on August 27, 2023, in Kaduna State. Troops from the 2 Battalion of the Nigerian Army acted on actionable intelligence, resulting in the neutralization of a criminal element and the liberation of four kidnap victims in Kwana Shehu Village, situated in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The released victims have been successfully reunited with their families. The statement concluded with an earnest plea to the public for their cooperation, urging individuals to provide credible information that can bolster the ongoing operations conducted by the Nigerian Army across the nation.
