Perm Sec, Enitan takes over Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation

Date:

Following the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Sadiya Umar Farouq, the reins of the ministry have been temporarily entrusted to the Permanent Secretary, Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan.

This move was executed in adherence to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive issued on Monday, suspending the minister due to alleged discrepancies in the handling of public funds.

Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan took charge after receiving an official letter from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on Monday night, outlining the directive for him to assume responsibility in light of the minister’s suspension.

President Tinubu, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, directed the suspended Minister to hand over duties to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. The President further instructed the suspended minister to fully collaborate with investigating authorities as they conduct their inquiries.

In addition, President Tinubu has established a panel led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance. The panel is tasked with conducting a comprehensive assessment of the financial architecture and framework governing social investment programs. The ultimate goal is to reform the relevant institutions and programs, addressing any institutional weaknesses to ensure the exclusive benefit of disadvantaged households and restore public trust in these initiatives.

This shift in leadership and the initiation of an investigative panel underscore the government’s commitment to transparent governance and ensuring that social welfare programs are effectively managed for the benefit of those in need.
