Amusan breaks African indoor record

Nigerian track and field athlete Tobi Amusan, already known for her prowess in hurdles, has achieved another milestone by breaking the African indoor record in the women’s 60m hurdles.

The 26-year-old set this new record at the opening leg of the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold in Astana, Kazakhstan.

In the semifinal heat, Amusan showcased her talent with a time of 7.91 seconds, and she went on to further impress by winning the event with a time of 7.77 seconds. This time not only secured her victory but also established a new African indoor record. The previous record was held by Glory Alozie at 7.82 seconds.

Amusan’s achievement places her second on the world top list for the season, just behind Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, who ran 7.75 at the Corky Classics in Lubbock, Texas. Moreover, Tobi Amusan has now moved up to the 20th position on the world all-time list in the women’s 60m hurdles.

This adds to Amusan’s already impressive list of records, including the Nigeria record, Nigerian Championships record, African Games record, African record, African indoor record, Commonwealth Games record, World Championships record, and world record in the women’s 100m hurdles. Her dominance in the sprint hurdles highlights her as a notable figure in the world of track and field.
