D’Tigress exit Olympics after quarterfinal loss to USA

Nigeria’s female basketball team, D’Tigress, bowed out of the ongoing Olympics tournament in Paris following a 74-88 loss to the United States in the quarterfinals.

Despite a valiant effort in the fourth quarter, where they outscored the USA 26-12, the Nigerian team could not overcome the deficit from the earlier quarters.

The game on Wednesday night showcased D’Tigress’s fighting spirit against the world’s number one team, USA, in a thrilling and highly competitive match. Under the guidance of Coach Rena Wakama, the Nigerian team demonstrated significant improvement throughout the tournament.

D’Tigress made history by defeating Australia and Canada in the preliminary rounds, becoming the first African team to qualify for the quarterfinals. Although they eventually lost by 14 points to the USA, the Nigerian team’s performance was commendable, with a final score of 74-88. The USA’s victory marked their 59th consecutive Olympic win as they aim for their eighth consecutive gold medal.

Ranked as the top African side and 12th overall in the world, Nigeria entered the Paris Games with hopes of causing an upset. However, the experienced American team proved too formidable. Despite the loss, the Africans were outstanding in the final quarter, winning it by a 12-point margin.
