Nigeria’s Super Eagles were held to a 0-0 draw by Rwanda in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match on Tuesday.
Despite dominating large portions of the game, the Eguavoen-led side struggled to find the back of the net, with Rwanda’s goalkeeper proving to be the difference.
The result comes on the heels of Nigeria’s emphatic 3-0 win over Benin Republic in Uyo on Saturday, bringing their group points total to four.
The match saw Nigeria create several opportunities, with Victor Osimhen coming closest to scoring in the dying minutes. His 94th-minute header was saved by the exceptional Rwandan goalkeeper, who consistently denied the Super Eagles throughout the match.

Substitutions saw Taiwo Awoniyi come on for Ademola Lookman in the 92nd minute, while earlier changes brought in Frank Onyeka and Raphael Onyedika for Wilfred Ndidi and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in the 70th minute.
Despite Nigeria’s dominance, Rwanda also had their moments, threatening with a long-range effort in the 87th minute, which Nigerian goalkeeper Nwabali parried to safety.
Osimhen and Lookman both had multiple chances, but the impressive Rwandan defense held firm, frustrating the Super Eagles’ attempts at a breakthrough. In the 85th minute, Lookman had a promising opportunity after a pull-back from Onyeka, but the Rwandan shot-stopper kept the game level.
Nigeria will look to regroup as they continue their quest for AFCON qualification, with their next match offering a chance to solidify their position in the group.
