The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert regarding the ban on Dex Luxury Bar Soap (No 6 Mystic Flower) by the European Union (EU). The notification, marked as Public Alert No. 012/2024, was shared with journalists in Abuja on Sunday, as confirmed by NAFDAC Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye.
According to Adeyeye, the EU banned the product due to its non-compliance with cosmetic products regulation and the presence of Butyphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA), a substance prohibited in cosmetic products due to its potential harm to the reproductive system and unborn children. Additionally, BMHCA may cause skin sensitization, further warranting the ban.
Highlighting the risks associated with the use of the product, Adeyeye urged importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain. She emphasized the importance of verifying the authenticity and physical condition of the product and advised against its importation, distribution, sale, and use.

Adeyeye further urged individuals in possession of the banned product to discontinue its sale or use and to submit existing stock to the nearest NAFDAC office. Healthcare professionals and consumers were encouraged to report any suspected adverse reactions or the presence of substandard and falsified regulated products to NAFDAC via phone at 0800-162-3322 or email at sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
The NAFDAC boss reiterated the importance of reporting adverse events or side effects related to the use of the banned product, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to ensuring public health and safety.
